On April 3, 2024, the official website for the popular global anime series Kimi ni Todoke announced that season 3 would be released in August 2024. The new season will also be available for streaming on Netflix worldwide. Along with the confirmation of the release window and Netflix availability, a new promotional video and key visual were also revealed for the highly anticipated third season.
The promotional video for the third season of Kimi ni Todoke is approximately 90 seconds long and primarily highlights the main characters. It begins by summarizing previous events from the second season and then provides a glimpse of what is to come. Although there is substantial dialogue in the trailer, the absence of English subtitles makes it challenging for those who do not speak Japanese to fully comprehend the content.
The third season of Kimi ni Todoke is an official continuation of the television anime adaptation based on Karuho Shiina’s original manga series of the same name. The manga was first published in Shueisha’s Bessatsu Margaret magazine in December 2005, targeting a shojo audience. It remained in Bessatsu Margaret until its ending in November 2017, spanning a total of 123 chapters collected in 30 volumes.
Highly Anticipated Third Season of Kimi ni Todoke Coming to Netflix in August 2024
The significance of the news of Kimi ni Todoke season 3 lies in the fact that the series has been absent from television for more than ten years, with its final episode airing in March 2011. Furthermore, Mamiko Noto and Daisuke Namikawa will return to voice the main characters Sawako Kuronuma and Shota Kazehaya, while new cast members will join the third season. These include:
- Miyuki Sawashiro as Ayane Yano
- Yuko Sanpei as Chizuru Yoshida
- Yuichi Nakamura as Ryu Sanada
- Mamoru Miyano as Kento Miura
- Yuki Ono as Kazuhichi Arai (Pin)
- Aya Hirano as Ume Kurumizawa
Kenichi Matsuzawa, who is directing the anime at Production I.G studios, is working alongside returning writer Tomoko Konparu to oversee the series scripts. Konparu is also co-writing the scripts with Michiki Yokote. Additionally, the musicians of S.E.N.S. Project, who composed the music for the first two seasons, are returning for the new anime series. Currently, Netflix is streaming the first two seasons in Japanese with English subtitles, as well as a new English dub.
The show centers around Sawako Kuronuma, known as Sadako by her peers because of her lengthy dark hair and fair complexion, which gives her a somber resemblance to the titular character in The Ring films. She crosses paths with Shota Kazehaya, a well-liked student, and their initial friendship gradually evolves into a passionate love story.
