In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, players embark on a compelling blacksmithing questline that centers around retrieving a sword from a hermit, but expect challenges along the way!
To familiarize yourself with the game, completing side quests like Find Mutt, Miri Fajta, and The Axe from the Lake can offer beneficial insights. However, furthering the main narrative requires dialogue with either the miller or the blacksmith.
As part of this quest, the blacksmith has promised a Damascus steel sword as a wedding gift. Your task is to locate and retrieve this sword from an old hermit. Since the game does not provide clear directions, this guide will outline the steps to complete The Hermit quest and the moral decision regarding the hermit’s fate.
Completing The Hermit Quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Generally, finishing The Hermit is straightforward thanks to quest markers. However, certain segments can be tricky, requiring thoughtful choices.
Initiate Dialogue with Innkeeper Betty
Start your journey by conversing with Innkeeper Betty to gather details about the hermit.Make sure to exhaust all dialogue options; approaching the hermit prematurely will result in him dismissing you.

Additionally, talking to Bara for insights from the local villagers and following the quest markers will help complete the investigative part. After speaking with Shepherd Stanislav, your next objective will be to find a black horse.
Locating the Black Horse
The black horse can be discovered at the Abandoned Camp, located east of the Apollonia road. After locating and inspecting the horse, proceed towards the hermit’s campsite.

Finding the Hermit
The hermit’s camp is situated directly west of the Well POI in Apollonia. Look for a stream crossing the road; by facing west, you can follow the stream until it leads to a path. Follow this path to discover the hermit’s cabin.

Upon finding the hermit, engage him in conversation and extract as much information as possible. He reveals himself to be Konrad, a knight of the Knights of the Cross, lamenting the loss of his old friend Ambrose, who has perished. He will agree to share the sword’s location after you convey a message for him.
Deciding the Fate of the Hermit
After delivering the message, you will encounter more Knights of the Cross outside his camp. They will request your assistance in eliminating Konrad. It’s advisable to comply with their wishes.

Approach Konrad gently and wait for him to conclude his dialogue; otherwise, he may turn hostile. Now, you must decide whether to side with Konrad or with the knights.
If Konrad meets his demise before providing the sword’s location, you can still uncover his diary in his shack. To find it, simply shift three sacks out of the way to retrieve and read it.

Retrieving the Sword
To acquire the sword, proceed west up the hill towards Ambrose’s grave. For your convenience, the exact grave location is displayed on the map below.

Once you have acquired the sword, return to the blacksmith in Tachov to forge it. This will allow you to continue on to the wedding and push ahead in the primary storyline.
To Kill or Save the Hermit?
It is advisable to save Konrad in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. His diary indicates that he spoke the truth all along.
Konrad was aware of the archbishop’s murder, with grandmaster Zdenyek implicated, leading him to kill two of his brothers to survive. He sought out Ambrose for refuge, only to find his old friend had passed shortly after his arrival. He assumed the identity of his deceased friend to fulfill a dying wish and evade the assailants.

Choosing to save Konrad represents a morally upright decision; however, players can navigate Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 according to their preferences. If a simpler confrontation is preferred, teaming up with the knights against Konrad is an option. Despite this, be aware that the knights may turn against you afterward, leading to a challenging encounter.
In my personal gameplay, after dealing with the knights, they remained hostile, prompting me to leave. You could choose to retaliate against them, loot their gear, and sell it; just be prepared for a tough fight.
