Billboard Japan Artist 100 has recently released its 2024 rankings for the top 10 most influential Kpop artists in Japan. The announcement of this ranking immediately sparked discussions among fans. Japan holds the title of being the second-largest music market in the world, making it a great achievement for Kpop artists to be recognized there. For the past 30 years, numerous K-pop entertainment companies have strived to enter the Japanese market and have achieved remarkable success.
According to Billboard Japan, LE SSERAFIM has been named the most dominant Kpop artist in Japan for 2024, with SEVENTEEN closely following in second place. These two groups hold the top positions in the Billboard Japan Artist 100 chart. In third place is NewJeans, while Jungkook is the only solo artist to make it into the top 5, ranking at #4. Despite their recent debut, ILLIT has achieved a high position at #5, surpassing TWICE (#6) and BTS (#9).
According to the Billboard Japan Artist 100, the top 10 most influential Kpop artists in Japan for 2024 are:
- THE SSERAFIM
- SEVENTEEN
- NewJeans
- Jungkook
- ILLITE
- TWICE
- Stray Kids
- IVE
- BTS
- Treasure
Despite its showcasing of popular and successful Japanese artists with large fanbases, the Billboard Japan ranking has been met with controversy due to LE SSERAFIM claiming the number one spot.
LE SSERAFIM outshined SEVENTEEN, who had recently drawn in almost 150,000 fans to their two Follow Again concerts at Nissan Stadium. Despite SEVENTEEN’s popularity in Japan, it is unexpected for them to be ranked below LE SSERAFIM.
Moreover, LE SSERAFIM not only outperformed TWICE – considered Japan’s top Kpop group – but also surpassed BTS, who ranked 9th behind ILLIT and NewJeans. In Japan, Jungkook is still the most well-known member of BTS.
In addition, the fact that BLACKPINK, who have had a record-breaking World Tour Born Pink and have performed at Tokyo Dome in the past, is not present has caused speculation.
