Bungie has taken a firm stance on cheating in its upcoming title, Marathon, announcing a zero-tolerance policy that will lead to immediate and permanent bans for offenders. As we approach the game’s launch on March 5, excitement builds for the Server Slam event starting February 26, where players can experience the game before its official release. However, the emphasis on fair play is just as critical as the gameplay itself.
The development team has implemented a range of anti-cheat measures designed to ensure a balanced and secure online environment. This includes the use of dedicated servers, which are expected to maintain fairness and integrity during matches, and innovative Fog of War systems that will restrict visibility for cheaters, even if they attempt to use wall-hacks.
Marathon’s Anti-Cheat Measures: No Second Chances
Players who suspect cheating can report dubious behavior either directly in-game or via an online reporting form. In a February 23, 2026 blog post, Bungie detailed the extensive measures being put in place. The dedicated servers will be continuously gathering data on player actions, allowing Bungie’s analytic tools to identify any unusual gameplay patterns, which could indicate cheating.

Any detected suspicious behavior will result in a permanent account ban without prior warning. For instance, if a player suddenly acquires multiple copies of the game’s rarest weapon, this will be flagged for investigation. Abusing duplication cheats or other exploits will lead to an automatic account termination.
Cheating methods such as aimbotting or wall-hacking will also be met with a non-negotiable response; accounts found engaging in such activities will be permanently erased. As Bungie emphasizes, “We are adopting a strong stance against cheating. Anyone found to be cheating or developing cheats will face an absolute ban from Marathon moving forward. There will be no second chances.”

For players who believe they have been wrongfully banned, there will be an appeals process available to reassess the ban. However, Bungie’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of Marathon suggests that they will uphold their rigorous standards against cheating stringently.
