The highly-anticipated fantasy thriller Netflix series, created by the same team behind Dark, has inexplicably been put on hold after filming was completed.
Ever since its debut in 2017, Dark, the German sci-fi thriller on Netflix, has been a massive success, enthralling audiences with its complex, multi-generational enigma and leaving them eagerly anticipating future projects from the creators.
Wiedemann & Berg, the German film production company responsible for Dark, appeared enthusiastic about fulfilling fans’ desires as they announced the start of production for a new TV series titled The Grimm Reality.
Production for The Grimm Reality was scheduled to start in 2022, according to an initial report by What’s on Netflix in 2023. Unfortunately, despite no episodes being released, the series has now been canceled.
Dark explored a mind-boggling mystery that left fans eager for more.
Deadline announced that production for The Grimm Reality had wrapped, but Netflix had ultimately chosen not to continue with the show. Details about the plot had been tightly guarded, but What’s on Netflix characterized it as a “fantastical urban thriller based on fairy tales.”
This resulted in the assumption that the series would center around the renowned stories of the Brothers Grimm, which were written in the 18th and 19th centuries. Among the most famous fairytales by the brothers are Little Red Riding Hood, Rumplestiltskin, Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, and Little Snow White.
“One fan expressed their disappointment for the [Dark Netflix] team, stating “I absolutely hate this”on X (formerly Twitter) upon learning that the show had been cancelled. They criticized the streaming platform for constantly mistreating director and screenwriters Baran Bo Odar and Jantje Friese since signing them.”
Despite the disappointment of Dark fans, this is not the first time Netflix has cancelled a highly anticipated show. However, the unexpected timing and limited number of episodes available for preview have left many puzzled.
