Twitch streamer Nick Polom, widely recognized as Nmplol, recently issued an apology following controversial remarks he made regarding the devastating floods that impacted Texas in July 2025.
These floods, precipitated by severe rainfall on July 4 and 5, resulted in the Guadalupe River overflowing its banks, which led to multiple emergency situations due to flash flooding. Tragically, the death toll has surpassed 40, with fifteen of those confirmed fatalities being children.
Nmplol’s Controversial Comments Spark Outrage
During a live stream on July 5 alongside fellow OTK member Esfand, Polom reacted to news of the fatalities, asking, “Is it children?” He further commented, “They don’t have much left for anyway, it’s okay.” When a viewer pointed out that these children still had their entire lives ahead of them, Polom controversially added, “Their whole lives? When they’re older, every job is going to be AI. Everything they learn is on ChatGPT. There is no future.”
The excerpt from the live stream quickly garnered attention across social media platforms, triggering significant backlash from the public. In response to the controversy, Polom took to X (formerly Twitter) on July 6 to apologize:
“Sorry guys, joke went too far. I wasn’t fully aware of the situation. It’s tragic what’s happened. I’ll be more mindful going forward. Hope everyone stays safe and dry in Texas.”
However, the reception of his apology was largely negative. Many users expressed skepticism, with one commenting, “Bro, are you speedrunning most unlikable person alive or something?” Another user stated, “I’ll believe you’re sorry when I see you make a massive donation to help the survivors. Words are cheap.”
Nick Polom, who is also a co-owner of the Austin-based media organization OTK, has been in the spotlight for reasons beyond his streaming persona. In 2024, he confirmed his separation from fellow streamer Malena Tudi, following allegations of “economic and financial abuse”made during their divorce proceedings.
