Bonney is a valuable comrade of the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece. However, is there a possibility of her becoming a member of the crew?
Fans of One Piece have been eagerly anticipating the addition of a new member to the Straw Hat Pirates. Currently, the crew consists of ten members, with Jinbei being the most recent addition during the Wano Country Arc.
Despite the timeskip, there have been several characters who were considered potential additions to Luffy’s crew, such as Carrot and Yamato. However, none of them ended up actually joining. Nevertheless, fans have identified a strong contender for the eleventh member of the Straw Hats during the current arc.
During the Egghead Arc, Jewelry Bonney plays a pivotal part as both Kuma’s daughter and the Gorosei’s intended target. While she fights alongside our heroes, it remains to be seen if she will ultimately become a permanent member of the crew.
Is Bonney Expected to Join the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece?
Bonney has made the decision to join the Straw Hat Pirates for the foreseeable future in order to escape Egghead Island. However, it is still uncertain whether or not she will officially become the eleventh member of the crew.
In light of the events of the Egghead Arc, Bonney will join the Straw Hats and travel with the giants to Elbaf. This is her sole escape route, as the Gorosei are currently pursuing her and Kuma. As a result, she will play a significant role in the upcoming Elbaf Arc as well.
In addition, she has formed friendships with particular crew members. Sanji and Zoro have shielded her multiple times from the Gorosei, and she shares a strong connection with Jinbei, Chopper, and Franky. However, the most thrilling aspect of Bonney joining the crew is her special bond with Luffy.
The captain of the Straw Hat crew has a history of developing heartwarming connections with young ones, evident in his relationships with Momo and Tama during their time in Wano. It is only natural that he will develop a similar bond with Bonney, especially given their shared love for food and status as members of the Supernova (alongside Zoro).
Above all, Luffy is seen by Bonney as the latest incarnation of Sun God Nika, whom she has cherished and looked up to since her youth. She views him as the ultimate symbol of liberty and draws strength from his example.
Upon observing Luffy’s Gear 5 in Chapter 1118, Bonney unveils a new transformation in which she takes on a form reminiscent of Gear 5. She dubs this form ‘Distortion Future: A Future Where I am Most Free’. However, despite its striking resemblance, this form pales in comparison to the true Gear 5.
In One Piece Chapter 1119, it is revealed that Bonney can only maintain her Nika form for a limited time. Once the transformation ends, she becomes too feeble to maintain her adult form and reverts back to being a child.
If she were to join the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy could serve as her mentor. Despite the stark differences in their Devil Fruit abilities, he would be able to train her in mastering her Nika form and extending its duration. His guidance would not only boost her self-assurance, but also provide protection against the World Government.
Nevertheless, we will have to wait until the conclusion of the Egghead Arc to witness whether or not Bonney is indeed accepted as the eleventh member of the Straw Hat crew.
