While fans eagerly await the arrival of Virgin River Season 7, there’s speculation among some viewers that this upcoming season could mark the end of the beloved Netflix series. Nonetheless, actor Tim Matheson, who plays the character Doc, believes the show has a much longer life ahead.
For those familiar with the original Virgin River novels, which count 22 in total, it becomes clear that there is still plenty of content to explore. Despite this wealth of material, a sense of unease has emerged within the fanbase, primarily due to the dramatic cliffhangers introduced in Season 6, leading many to contemplate whether the series’ arc is nearing its conclusion.
Major developments such as Mel and Jack preparing to solidify their family bond, alongside the budding reconciliation between Brady and Brie, and Preacher and Kaia’s evolving relationship, suggest a logical resolution to the narratives. This has left fans questioning if the story of life in their favorite small town is indeed winding down.
Tim Matheson: Virgin River Is Here to Stay

Matheson has expressed optimism about the series’ future, stating, “I think it’s bright and could go on and on. Netflix loves it. It’s a show that achieves ratings comparable to more expensive productions but at a fraction of the cost.” He emphasizes that this financial efficiency could favor the show’s continuation.
Moreover, Matheson indicated the universal appeal of the series, noting, “It’s such a simple family show, with something that resonates across generations.” He alluded to ongoing discussions of a spinoff focusing on the backstory of Mel’s parents from 30 years ago, hinting at the narrative richness that could sustain the series further.
In his belief that the show can persist as long as Netflix and its executives, including Ted Sarandos, support it, he stated, “We love them, and they’ve gone to bat for us again and again, so we hope it will continue.”
Prior to the release of Season 6 in 2024, Netflix hinted at potential spinoff projects, including one centered on a young Everett and Sarah’s romance set in the 1970s Virgin River era. Although several flashbacks were presented in Season 6, no definitive plans for this separate storyline have yet been confirmed.
Season 7 is poised to make Virgin River the longest-running original series on Netflix. While fans have received little information about the forthcoming episodes, no official statements have suggested that this season could be its last.
For now, viewers can enjoy Season 6 of Virgin River, available on Netflix, and should explore filming locations or discover other series that capture a similar magic.
