Ranking of the Fates of the 9 Demon Slayer Hashira based on Chronological Order of Death

The Demon Slayer Hashira, featured in the highly acclaimed anime series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, is currently one of the most popular anime teams. The group, portrayed as they are in Tanjiro’s journey, is greatly adored for their exceptional abilities, diverse personalities, and interconnected backgrounds.

Similarly, it is heart-wrenching to witness the deaths or forced retirements of the Demon Slayer Hashira at different points in the series. Although this has only been briefly mentioned for those who have only watched the anime, readers of the manga are well aware of the ultimate destinies of the Hashira during Tanjiro’s era.

Kyojuro Rengoku – Title/Proper Name

Kyojuro Rengoku’s unexpected and abrupt death was a shocking event for fans, as he was the first Hashira to meet such a fate. However, despite not having much prior development, his position as a Hashira had already instilled high expectations for his abilities. Fortunately, Rengoku exceeded these expectations with his impressive Breathing Style and impressive fighting skills.

Similarly, fans were deeply saddened by his death at the hands of the Upper Rank 2 member of Muzan Kibutsuji’s Twelve Kizuki, despite his victory over Lower Rank 1. However, Rengoku’s memorable exit remains a major highlight of the series for many fans.

Shinobu Kocho

The Infinity Castle arc, known as the final arc by fans, marks the tragic death of Demon Slayer Hashira, Shinobu Kocho. This is the first death on the list that has not yet been shown in the anime, so any further details will contain major spoilers for those who have only watched the anime.

Similarly, Shinobu’s demise was caused by Upper Rank 2 Doma, whom she bravely challenged single-handedly in order to seek retribution for her elder sister Kanae Kocho’s death at his hands. Kanae, who had previously held the position of Flower Hashira, added to the weight of Shinobu’s passing as the current Insect Hashira.

Muichiro Tokito

In the Infinity Castle arc, the death of Shinobu leads to a highly appropriate Demon Slayer Hashira death due to the connection between the killer and the victim. In a twist of fate, Muichiro Tokito and Upper Rank 1 Kokushibo, also known as Michikatsu Tsugikuni, both meet their demise in their initial battle.

Despite being distant relatives due to their significant age gap, the death of both Tokito and Kokushibo is still significant as they are each other’s last living relatives. This is confirmed by the fact that Tokito belongs to the Tsugikuni line. However, instead of coming together and discussing their familial connection, they tragically end up killing each other.

Character Profile: Mitsuri Kanroji

Despite her valiant efforts, Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji becomes the next Demon Slayer Hashira to fall in battle against Muzan Kibutsuji. In her final moments, she bravely tears off one of Muzan’s arms, buying precious time for her comrades until the break of dawn when the sunlight ultimately defeats him.

Despite losing both of her own arms during the process, this was still her final significant contribution to the fight and to the series as a whole. Sadly, she ultimately succumbs to her injuries and dies. However, her brave actions directly contribute to Muzan’s defeat, proving that her ultimate sacrifice was not in vain.

5) Obanai Iguro

Fortunately, Kanroji’s demise is also filled with romance, as she spends her final moments with her love interest and fellow Demon Slayer Hashira, Obanai Iguro. Similar to Mitsuri, Obanai valiantly battles against Muzan until his dying breath, remaining by her side through the final, climactic moments as the sun rises on the demon king.

As Muzan’s life comes to an end, Obanai approaches Mitsuri and vows that if fate reunites them in the future, they will marry and create a blissful life together. This heartfelt moment softens the blow of losing two beloved characters.

Gyomei Himejima

Despite technically surviving the fight with Muzan, Gyomei Himejima ultimately succumbs to the injuries he sustained during the battle in the immediate moments after Muzan’s death. This also results in the deaths of Mitsuri, Obanai, and Gyomei within a matter of minutes, if not seconds, of each other.

Despite his intense and courageous fighting until the very end of the battle, it is challenging to determine the exact cause of Gyomei’s death, as he did not sustain any major injuries like Mitsuri did. However, his passing holds great significance as he is reunited with the orphans he raised, resulting in a similarly emotional farewell to that of Mitsuri and Obanai.

Giyu Tomioka

Despite the gruesome deaths of the above Demon Slayer Hashira in battle, there are no more Hashira who perish in the line of duty for the remainder of the series. However, two Hashira do tragically pass away at a young age due to awakening their demon slayer marks, with Giyu Tomioka being the first.

Despite the series not explicitly stating that Giyu was the first of the remaining Hashira to die, it is established that those with the demon slayer mark have a lifespan of only 25 years. As Giyu’s birthday falls earlier in the year compared to the other surviving Hashira, it is probable that he was the first among them to pass away.

Sanemi Shinazugawa

Similarly, Sanemi Shinazugawa was the second-to-last Demon Slayer Hashira to perish, as his birthday fell later in the year than Giyu’s. Much like Giyu, it was also predicted that he would die during his 25th year of life after activating the demon slayer mark during the events at the Infinity Castle arc.

Although the series never explicitly confirms it, based on the available information, it is highly likely that Sanemi passed away after Giyu.

Right Uzui

Tengen Uzui, who retired after the Entertainment District arc, is considered to be the final Demon Slayer Hashira to pass away. As he never activated his demon slayer mark, it is assumed that he lived a long and fulfilling life.

This is reinforced by the earlier mentioned fact that he left the Demon Slayer Corps before his retirement age, and that he was already married to three loving wives who would care for him and ensure his well-being.

In conclusion

Despite the fact that all of the Hashira from Demon Slayer ultimately meet their demise, the manner in which they die varies greatly. Some face gruesome and excruciating deaths, while others, like Gyomei, Mitsuri, and Obanai, find moments of joy even in their final moments. However, there are also heartbreaking deaths such as Shinobu’s, filled with remorse and sorrow.
