The Marvel panel has long been a centerpiece at Comic-Con, captivating fans with its exciting reveals and star-studded appearances. However, this year, the studio will notably be absent from Hall H, and the decision is rooted in several strategic considerations.
Historically, Marvel has dominated San Diego Comic-Con, offering fans unforgettable experiences and exclusive sneak peeks. Last year’s lineup was particularly impressive, featuring the casts of highly anticipated films such as Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and Fantastic Four: First Steps. The highlight was the announcement of the Russo brothers helming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, culminating in the sensational reveal that Robert Downey Jr.would portray Doctor Doom.
Reasons Behind Marvel’s Absence from Comic-Con 2025
For 2025, Marvel’s absence is attributed to logistical challenges, scheduling conflicts, and financial considerations, as the studio is preparing for a significant return in 2026.
This week, Fantastic Four: First Steps will debut, yet fans will have to wait a full year for the next Marvel film due to shifting release dates. As reported by Variety in May, the launch of Avengers: Doomsday has been postponed from May 2026 to December 2026. Accordingly, Marvel has opted to withhold from Comic-Con this year rather than interrupt production in London and transport its extensive cast of over two dozen actors to San Diego.

Despite not hosting a major panel, Marvel will still engage fans through panels discussing comics and video games, in addition to a standout presence at a Fantastic Four: First Steps booth.
This isn’t the first time Marvel has chosen to bypass Comic-Con; previous absences occurred in 2011, 2015, 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2023 due to various circumstances including industry strikes, the global pandemic, and insufficient footage.
Marvel won’t be alone in its decision to skip this year’s event. Competing studio DC is also forgoing a movie panel, shifting its focus to Season 2 of Peacemaker. Other major players such as Warner Bros., Sony, Lionsgate, Paramount, Legendary, and Lucasfilm are also opting out of Hall H this year.
Nevertheless, Comic-Con 2025 will still present an array of captivating film content, including previews for titles like Project Hail Mary, Tron: Ares, and Predator: Badlands. We will be closely covering the latest from these films.
