
A prominent gaming retailer recently issued an apology after erroneously announcing September 17, 2025, as the release date for the much-anticipated sequel, Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6).This misinformation created a significant buzz within the gaming community.
The erroneous listing appeared on XUruguay’s platform on January 29 and was quickly retracted. The rapid spread of this supposed release date prompted the retailer to clarify the situation through an official statement, aimed at addressing the confusion caused by the mistake.
Apology from Retailer Over GTA 6 Release Date Miscommunication
In a statement translated from Spanish and shared on January 29, XUruguay expressed their excitement as fans of the series, referencing the release of Grand Theft Auto V, which debuted on September 17, 2013. They stated, “We take as a reference the release of the previous game GTA V.”
Furthermore, the retailer emphasized, “It was not our intention to generate confusion, and we wish to clarify that we did not receive any official information from any brands regarding the game’s release date.” This assertion was made in an open letter intended to set the record straight.

The retailer also released a public statement to address the misunderstanding.
In providing further context on how the mix-up occurred, the retailer mentioned, “A new employee mistakenly mentioned the release date of GTA V found online, thinking it was for GTA 6. We initially took it as an internal joke, which spiraled into speculation.”
The statement concluded with a note of enthusiasm, acknowledging the significance of the forthcoming game: “The only certainty is that we made an error; one of the most important games in history is on the way, and we share the eagerness to see its release.”
