Richard Gadd won’t “ever comment again” on real Baby Reindeer characters

Richard Gadd has once again confronted rumors about the true identities of his Baby Reindeer characters, stating that he does not believe he will ever publicly address the matter again.

During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Gadd discussed his sudden rise to fame, the influences that led to the creation of Baby Reindeer, and his professional journey. The discussion also touched upon Fiona Harvey, a 58-year-old law graduate who has been accused of being the true identity behind Martha (portrayed by Jessica Gunning) in the show.

Despite the interview taking place before Harvey’s appearance on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored chat show last week, Gadd was asked about his level of engagement with her social media posts.

Gadd responded by stating that he could neither confirm nor deny any details about the real-life individuals on whom the characters in the show are based.

Baby Reindeer’s sparked a hunt to find the “real Martha”

“I am aware that for each individual role, there have been approximately five to six individuals considered for the position, including the pub manager.”

“The internet will always behave in its own way. I am not able to provide any comments on that. Recently, I received a video from someone claiming to be Teri (Nava Mau) but I have never encountered them before.”

“The internet has a tendency to do its own thing, and I have learned to accept and adapt to it. That’s simply how it is.”

Upon being asked how he handles situations like this, the Baby Reindeer creator stated that he does not support the idea of sleuthing.

“I have publicly stated that I want the show to be viewed as a work of art and for people to enjoy it in that capacity,”he further expressed.

My name is Donny Dunn. Although it is based on truth, it exists in a fictional realm. Let’s embrace and appreciate the world that I have constructed. If my intention was for the real-life individuals to be discovered, I would have produced a documentary instead.

“I have previously addressed my stance on this issue publicly, expressing my desire for people to refrain from engaging in it. However, constantly addressing it would only perpetuate the problem, so I have decided to no longer comment on it.”

The individual who both created and stars in the popular Netflix show has consistently expressed his views on fans discovering and revealing the true identities of the characters, stating that it goes against the intended purpose of the series.

Gadd also stated that the accusations against British director Sean Foley of being the true Darrien (Tom Goodman-Hill) are incorrect, according to his post.

Gadd previously asked fans to stop speculating

“People whom I adore, have collaborated with, and respect (including Sean Foley) are unjustly being entangled in speculation,”he wrote.

“Kindly refrain from speculating about the identities of any real-life individuals.”
