Fans of Insomniac’s Spider-Man universe have started a petition to save the canceled multiplayer game, which recently leaked online.
The developer of the Spider-Man games, Insomniac, once had a multiplayer experience in development. The public recently became aware of the project titled “The Great Web” after footage of a concept trailer surfaced online.
The images notably showed Peter Parker and Miles Morales confronting the Sinister Six. Gwen Stacey’s Spider-Gwen character also appeared as a playable hero.
As previously noted in the Insomniac leaks, Sony has abandoned the online gaming-centric idea. But after seeing what the studio had planned, players want the publisher to give the project another chance.
Spider-Man fans want to revive canceled multiplayer game
Shortly after the trailer began circulating on the networks, Spider-Man players launched a petition to save the multiplayer project shelved by Insomnaic.
The person who started the petition on Change.org explained: “This petition is to show Insomniac and Sony the love and concern we have for this potentially revolutionary multiplayer experience.”

At the time of writing, the petition to save the canceled Spider-Man multiplayer game has garnered just over 2,500 signatures. In response to the post, fans shared their shock that Sony had not greenlit the project.
One fan said: “Who would be crazy enough to write off a guaranteed hit like this???”
Another person had this to say about Spider-Man: The Great Web being canceled: “That would be so fun. Even though it was basically very similar to SM2, just being able to play with friends would be so much fun.”
According to the leaks, Insomniac was building its Spider-Man multiplayer game as a live service, with five-player gameplay in mind.
It seems unlikely that the team’s vision will come to fruition, unfortunately.
