An update from an actor involved in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has brought disappointing news regarding the eagerly awaited sequel, Beyond the Spider-Verse. The anticipation for this next installment continues to build, yet it appears we may have a lengthy wait ahead.
The original film, Into the Spider-Verse, which premiered in 2018, captivated audiences with its groundbreaking animation, stellar soundtrack, and engaging narrative, quickly becoming a beloved superhero classic.
Given its success, Sony Pictures announced an ambitious three-part story arc for the franchise. While Part 2, Across the Spider-Verse, premiered in early 2023, it concluded with a contentious cliffhanger, leaving fans eager for the resolution promised in the third installment. Unfortunately, the timeline for its release remains uncertain.
Delays in Production for Beyond the Spider-Verse
Originally, there were plans for the development of Beyond the Spider-Verse to proceed parallel to that of its predecessor, facilitating a close release schedule. However, these plans fell through, and now, insights from the cast suggest that it may take several years before the next chapter is completed.
Initially, the third film was slated for a March 2024 release. Following the premiere of Across the Spider-Verse, substantial script revisions required extensive time for completion, and progress was further hindered by the 2023 Writers Guild strike.
Fast forward to 2025, and fans are left in a state of ambiguity regarding the film’s release. Significantly, the directors were only confirmed in December 2024, indicating that the project is still in its nascent stages.

The message is clear: Beyond the Spider-Verse remains quite far from completion, prolonging fans’ anticipation for a resolution to the cliffhanger from two years ago.
Actor Jharrel Jerome, who portrays Miles G. Morales — an alternate version of the character introduced as a villain in Across the Spider-Verse — recently provided insights into the status of the upcoming film during a January 16, 2025 interview.
Jerome stated that production has not yet begun in earnest. “We haven’t started up yet,” he disclosed in an interview with Decider. “A lot of things are being figured out, but good things.”
This confirmation suggests that fans should temper their expectations for the release of Beyond the Spider-Verse. With dialogue not yet recorded and the project still in its early phases, it appears we may be awaiting this concluding chapter for several more years.
