How to make a good Sorcerer build in Diablo 4?

Before going into the details of the best builds, it is important to take a step back and ask yourself the essential components to choose the best skills to build.

In the majority of cases, Sorcerer builds will be based on a skill that costs mana. These have no cooldown and can be spammed as long as you have enough mana. Since the gauge empties very quickly, it is not recommended to level several of these skills.

Fortunately, many skills do not consume mana, but are subject to a cooldown. This is the case for defensive skills or ultimates that must be used at the right time to maximize their powerful effect.

Basic skills have no cost, but are also less powerful. In most builds, we will choose a basic skill that regenerates mana or grants bonuses to criticals, although a skill like Electric Whip can be the central element of some builds.

Finally, passive skills give you powerful effects in combat. They should not be neglected, and each build relies on a few passives which greatly increase their effectiveness.

The best endgame builds

Build Lightning Sphere Sorcerer

This extremely effective build relies on the excellent Gravity Aspect which allows Lightning Sphere to spin around the caster rather than going in a straight line.

With the right build, spamming Lightning Sphere creates a veritable barrier of spinning projectiles that is sure to atomize anything that comes near you.

The Lightning Sphere Sorcerer has excellent damage, survivability and impressive mobility, and his only drawback is his short range which forces him to take risks.

Build Sorcerer Blizzard

Blizzard is an excellent skill, allowing you to slow down enemies in a wide area. Unfortunately, the latter is seriously lacking in damage… unless you combine it with the right Aspect!

The Frosty Aspect is the heart of this build, and its main source of damage. Here, we keep things simple, with the entire defensive arsenal of the Sorcerer and Blizzard as one and only offensive spell.

This build inflicts colossal damage over time, and can freeze entire hordes of enemies as well as melt a boss. Its main flaw lies in its lack of burst, which forces you to progress relatively slowly.

Build Sorcerer Ice Shards

Do you dream of machine-gunning your enemies at the other end of the screen? The main skill Ice Shards is for you, and is the focal point of one of the most powerful Sorcerer builds.

The Ice Shard Wizard has colossal single-target damage, allowing him to quickly defeat bosses and elites even at the very high levels of Nightmare Dungeon.

What about area damage then? If this is clearly the weak point of this build, don’t imagine that you will have to individually kill each demon that comes before you. Indeed, the Ice Shards Sorcerer is capable of grouping enemies together and causing powerful ice AoEs as soon as he kills an enemy with Ice Shards.

This build is extremely popular, and it’s easy to see why: range, mobility, and excellent damage… what more could you ask for?

Build Wizard Wall of Fire

Style is as important as efficiency in Diablo 4, and the Wall of Fire Sorcerer probably has the most impressive skills of any class.

This build mainly relies on the skill Wall of Fire which summons large areas of fire on the ground, inflicting enormous damage over time.

Besides that, the Wall of Fire Sorcerer has a whole defensive arsenal, the excellent Teleport to permanently reposition himself, but also and above all the inimitable ultimate Inferno, summoning a sublime fiery serpent to group as many enemies as possible in our Walls of Fire.

In summary, the Wall of Fire Sorcerer is a powerful build, and as simple as it is enjoyable to play. Its lack of single-target damage poses some problems for it to face the most difficult bosses, which does not detract from the build’s excellent overall performance.

The best leveling builds

Wizard Chain Lightning – Season 3

The Chain Lightning Sorcerer is undoubtedly the best leveling build for the Sorcerer… but also probably one of the best leveling builds of all classes.

With colossal single-target and area damage, exceptional mobility and more than respectable defense, the Chain Lightning Sorcerer will have you flying through early game content.

How the build works

This build doesn’t need extremely complicated synergies to work miracles. In fact, it relies above all on the incredible power of two skills acquired very early in your progression.

The first is the basic skill Electric Whip. The latter inflicts a lot of damage in a very respectable area, and generates mana.

The second is the main skill Chain Lightning, which propels a bouncing bolt of lightning from enemy to enemy.

Simply by investing 5 points in each of its skills, you will have more than enough damage to destroy everything that comes your way.

So the rest of the build will focus on survival and mobility, with the mage’s arsenal of shields and the excellent Teleport.

Chain Lightning Sorcerer Gameplay

If you don’t want to take the hassle, then this excellent build is for you. Indeed, your goal couldn’t be simpler: cast Chain Lightning whenever you can, and use Electric Whip when you’re out of mana.

The rest of your skill set is purely utilitarian:

  • Teleport allows you to move faster or escape from a dangerous situation
  • Frost Nova allows you to keep enemies under control, but also apply vulnerability to them for a nice damage bonus
  • Ice Armor is your primary survival tool, granting you a huge amount of shielding
  • Fire Shield allows you to regenerate your HP, or become invulnerable in the event of a hard hit
  • Unstable Current will give you the boost you need to get rid of large groups of elites or bosses

Skill Enchantment

During his progression, the Sorcerer can choose two enchantments which offer him powerful passives.

  • Level 15 – Chain Lightning Enchantment – A Chain Lightning automatically forms after spending 100 mana
  • Level 30 – Firebolt Enchantment: Direct damage from your skills deals additional damage as burn for 8 seconds.
    • Note that this enchantment is the only reason we invested a point in Firebolt. Burning your enemies will allow you to benefit from the synergies of many Sorcerer passives.
Aspects to prioritize

In order to strengthen your build, we strongly advise you to quickly complete the dungeons which will provide you with interesting aspects via the codex.
