Marc Robert ‘Caedrel’ Lamont and Eefje ‘Sjokz’ Depoortere have announced that they will be organizing and hosting a new award ceremony for the League of Legends esports community, titled The League Awards.
Both Caedrel and Sjokz have been part of the League esports community for a considerable amount of time. Sjokz began her journey in the industry as an interviewer for WeGaming in 2021 and eventually progressed to become the host of the European league for Riot Games.
The Belgian broadcast talent is recognized by many in the LoL Esports community as one of the main personalities of the LEC, having hosted and conducted interviews for various other esports broadcasts.
Caedrel has become one of the most well-known League of Legends streamers, having previously been a professional player in Europe and now working as a caster for the LEC broadcast. His co-stream of LoL esports matches consistently outperforms the main broadcast, and he continues to stream under the Fnatic brand.
“According to Caedrel, the announcement of an award show on social media was a result of the feeling that something was lacking – a major ceremony to honor all individuals in the Lolesports community worldwide at the conclusion of each competitive season. It is their aim for this event to become an annual tradition.”
The location, dates, and voting process for the event have not been disclosed.
Despite being one of the largest esports in the world, League of Legends does not have its own award show. However, in January 2024, developer Riot Games created its own version of a Hall of Fame for the esport.
In previous years, the Esports Awards has recognized and honored League of Legends players, teams, journalists, and casters through nominations and award victories. However, the event also encompasses the wider esports scene and includes recognition for other popular games such as Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, Dota, and others.
