<p>Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, it’s the perfect time for a bobsled adventure! Recent reports suggest that Disney is working on a sequel to the beloved film Cool Runnings, with an intriguing true story ready to be transformed into a cinematic masterpiece.
As streaming platforms reshape the entertainment landscape, resulting in declining cinema revenues, studios are increasingly looking to capitalize on established intellectual properties. Reboots and sequels have become the norm, reflecting a trend that seems set to continue, regardless of public sentiment.
Disney, as a key player in this arena, has been consistently producing live-action adaptations and expanding its superhero and Star Wars franchises. Now, it appears the iconic studio is turning its focus toward one of its classic sports comedies.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, the sequel is expected to feature an all-female Jamaican bobsled team, opening the door to an inspiring narrative about the Jamaican national women’s bobsleigh journey. Established in the early 2000s, a new team took shape in 2014, featuring NaTalia Stokes, daughter of one of the original members of the Cool Runnings story.
Reflecting on her experience, NaTalia expressed to the BBC, “No one can describe to you what it’s like to be a driver in a bobsleigh until you get in the sled. You seriously don’t remember anything. It’s like going on a rollercoaster and closing your eyes.” Her passion for the sport is evident as she remarked, “I fell in love on the first run and knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.”
The team reached a significant milestone during the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, becoming the first women’s Jamaican bobsleigh group to compete. However, their journey was not without challenges; just days before the games, their coach Sandra Kiriasis resigned, taking the team’s sled with her.

In a twist worthy of the original film, the situation turned heartwarming as the beer company Red Stripe stepped in to provide a new sled, enabling the women to compete. By the time of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Jamaica made history once again by qualifying for three bobsleigh events: the four-man, two-man, and women’s monobob.
While they have yet to secure a medal, this latest chapter in the Jamaican bobsleigh saga perpetuates the inspiring underdog legacy that first captivated audiences during the 1988 Winter Olympics. The compelling narrative arc of the women’s team is ripe for adaptation into a new Cool Runnings sequel.
This story embodies everything we love: a new generation of athletes, family ties to the past, dramatic hurdles, and exhilarating victories. Disney, we believe this sequel could resonate widely with viewers and become an uplifting classic, just like its predecessor.
