TWS’s Comeback Causes Controversy on MelOn’s Top 100

On June 24, TWS finally unveiled their much-anticipated second mini album “Summer Beat!”along with the music video for its lead single “If I’m S, Can You Be My N?”

Fans eagerly awaited the highly anticipated release of the comeback this June, and were ecstatic when the pre-release “Hey! Hey!”was dropped on the 5th.

In addition to the title track and pre-release, there are also B-side tracks included in the album, such as “You+Me=7942,””Double Take,””Keep On,”and “Fire Confetti.”

On June 24, netizens created an online post documenting the group’s recent accomplishment on the local music charts. The post revealed that TWS’ “If I’m S, Can You Be My N?”debuted at No. 58 on MelOn’s Top 100 chart.

“According to OP, the song did not initially chart, but it eventually began charting at 12:00, despite the freezing temperatures. However, upon its release, it quickly settled at 58th place, which was a significant improvement from its lack of charting before its official release.”

Among the comments, a few individuals expressed their admiration for the accomplishment and acknowledged that it showcased a strong and dedicated fanbase for the newly debuted group.

  • “Wow, with this level of momentum, there seems to be a solid core fanbase. Considering it’s a boy group, they should aim for an arena to accommodate everyone?”

Despite the overall buzz surrounding the comeback, the majority remained skeptical of the authenticity of the feat. Some even pointed out factors such as the absence of the album’s songs on the charts. See their reactions below:

  • “I didn’t even know that they released a song.”
  • “Seeing how their side tracks and pre-release all failed to chart, they don’t seem like the type of boy group that the general public search up.”
  • “It’s not like their fandom is streaming the song.”
  • “The fact that only their title track charted ‘by accident’ probably means that the general public looked up their song like crazy?”
  • “HYBE’s know-hows are seriously amazing, as expected from a ‘big company.”
  • “Do they not care about all the side-eyeing?”
  • “Is it because it was ‘a good song’ once again?”
  • “People say that refreshing songs are the general public’s pick but their pre-release was also refreshing so why didn’t it chart?”
  • “They are being way too obvious now.”

In the meantime, I-netz accused HYBE and PLEDIS Entertainment of engaging in “sajaegi,”which refers to the illegal practice of boosting sales or streams. However, there were also those who defended the group against these accusations.

  • “Not even waiting for promotions to start after debuting that low is actually crazy.”
  • “Somehow their songs rise but none of the members are ever trending and they have zero fandom power the sajaegi is too obvious.”
  • “Not even waiting for promotions to start after debuting that low is actually crazy.”
  • “Until we get official clarification everything will seem suspicious. The members deserve better than this so I do wish this could get sorted out so we can move on.”
  • “Why do they find it so hard to believe people like TWS’s songs?”
  • “Do you all get satisfaction in knocking them down or something?”
