In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the steps necessary to unlock Mai’s Outfit 2 in Street Fighter 6 without spending any Fighter Coins.

Unlocking Mai in Street Fighter 6

Before you can accessorize Mai with Outfit 2, she must first be unlocked as a playable character. This DLC character can be acquired in several ways: either individually for 350 Fighter Coins (roughly $7), or bundled within the Season 2 Character Pass for $30, or the Season 2 Ultimate Pass for $50.

The quickest route to obtain Mai’s Outfit 2 is through Fighter Coins—specifically, it costs 50 Fighter Coins in the shop (approximately $1).However, we advise against this purchase. It’s more beneficial to reserve your Fighter Coins for other unique costumes and instead unlock outfit 2 for free via World Tour Mode.

Unlocking Mai’s Outfit 2 for Free in World Tour Mode

While it requires some dedicated effort, you can earn Mai’s Outfit 2 at no cost by engaging in World Tour Mode. This section will detail the steps, starting with the process of becoming Mai’s pupil and ultimately raising her Bond level to 100.

Steps to Become Mai’s Student in World Tour Mode

After you have successfully acquired the Street Fighter 6 Mai DLC, you can select her in both Arcade Mode and the Fighting Ground. However, to become her student in World Tour Mode, you first need to be Terry’s student. Complete the first Knock Out Festival as a prerequisite to unlock the second festival and initiate the path to becoming Mai’s student.

Head over to your hangout in Metro City and choose “One Fateful Day.” Here, select “Knock Out Festival” —this is the same scenario where you previously became Terry’s pupil and obtained his Outfit 2. Look for a poster advertising the new Knock Out Festival right outside your hideout. Examine the poster and then return to your hideout to set the time to night.

Once you’ve adjusted the time, exit your hideout and proceed towards Beat Square to trigger the cutscene that introduces the second Knock Out Festival. Engage with Alice, who will display a multi-colored mission marker above her head. Similar to your first Knock Out Festival, you will receive an avatar hat item—the KOF Event Cap alpha. Equip it via the status menu to proceed.

You now need to partner up for this two-on-two tournament. The person without a partner is **Ichiko Kureno**, a mysterious figure near a large sign.Speak to her and agree to team up.

Your objective is to “defeat two teams.” You will encounter opponents around Beat Square marked with the multi-colored mission markers on the mini-map. If your level is 55 or above, these battles will be manageable. Battle the following pairs in any order:

  • Thrasher Damnd (Level 50) and Mad Gear Elissa (Level 46),
  • Rudra (Level 50) and Chandi (Level 46).

After defeating these pairs, you’ll need to win against three additional teams of two. Seek out and challenge the following pairs:

  • Hwang (Level 49) and Jae Hee (Level 46),
  • Shushu (Level 48) and Reirei (Level 48),
  • Mr. Maximum (Level 48) and Duck Queen (Level 47).

Should any of these fighters appear familiar, that’s intentional—they will return later. Additionally, don’t be alarmed if Ichiko’s presence raises suspicions; other characters might mention seeing a woman who vanished mysteriously, but she is likely not involved.

Upon defeating all five teams, you and Ichiko will triumph in the tournament, earning two tickets to the Pao Pao Cafe.Once you’ve obtained the tickets, feel free to remove the KOF Cap and return to Ichiko at her original spot (no quest marker will guide you, so be attentive) to travel to the cafe. Note that Ichiko will only appear at night, so ensure it’s not daytime.

Your arrival at the Pao Pao Cafe coincides with Terry and his brother Andy’s departure, prompting Ichiko to reveal her true identity as Mai. Regrettably, Andy leaves before conversing with her, causing a sense of disappointment. She will then invite you to Aokigahara, unlocking that location on your World Map.

Once at Aokigahara, watch as Mai showcases her prowess by defeating her ninja students. After the cutscene concludes, engage with Mai to officially become her student.

Increasing Mai’s Bond Level to 100

Now that you are officially recognized as Mai’s pupil, the next step is to raise her Bond level to 100 to gain access to her Outfit 2. The primary means of achieving this is by gifting her items she favors, but there are additional methods for rapidly boosting her Bond level.

Embark on a Global Journey with Mai

Traveling the world with Mai can instantly raise her Bond level by 10 points. If you have any bonus Style points earned from other characters, you can transfer them to Mai for a substantial boost. Otherwise, equip Mai’s Style and battle some ninjas in Aokigahara to elevate her Style quickly. Additionally, purchase an Anmitsu from Merchant Hawker for 1260 Zenny, which will grant bonus Style XP.

Once you’ve completed your travels, converse with Mai to visit another location. Finishing your travels will reward you with Mai-themed wallpapers for your phone, three Herbal Cure-Alls, and an increase of 10 in Mai’s Bond level.

Engaging in Conversation and Sparring with Mai

As Mai’s Style and Bond level improve, opportunities to converse with her will arise, indicated by a small red light bulb next to her name. Certain discussions will elevate her Bond level, including:

  • Conversations about embarking on a journey, which raises her Bond by 5 points.
  • Compliments on the Shiranui style being “beautiful and cool, ” which adds 2 points.

Additionally, Maison may occasionally invite you for a sparring session. Winning these matches will increase her Bond level by 7 points each time.

Mai’s Favorite Gifts

The most effective way to enhance Mai’s Bond level is through gift-giving.

Heavy Metal Demo Tape

Presenting the Heavy Metal Demo Tape to Mai increases her Bond by 5 points. Various fighters in the “One Fateful Day” scenario have a chance of dropping this item after specific conditions are met. The table below provides details on which fighters drop the Heavy Metal Demo Tape, the conditions required, and their respective locations:

Fighter Name and Level Conditions to Acquire the Heavy Metal Demo Tape Location
Elise (Level 53) Defeat in 9 seconds or less Colosseum
Taufik (Level 52) Defeat using Marisa’s style Colosseum
Guillaume (Level 55) Drive Parry 15 times Funfair
Fighters Dropping the Heavy Metal Demo Tape in Street Fighter 6 World Tour Mode

You can return later to defeat these fighters again for additional Heavy Metal Demo Tapes, but there are other gifts available to improve Mai’s Bond level.

Ornamental Hairpin

The most prestigious gift you can present to Mai is the Ornamental Hairpin, which amplifies her Bond level by a staggering 40 points. To acquire this item, conclude another side mission. Visit Metro City during the day and approach Alice; the blue crown mission icon will indicate you’re on the right track.

Accept the mission titled “The Legendary Supporting Cast” and interact with the Fatal Fury cosplayers scattered around Beat Square during both day and night. All will be identifiable via mission markers. Some of the characters and levels you’ll encounter during the day include:

  • Iron Hand (Level 48), cosplaying as the arm wrestling machine,
  • Flanco (Level 47), cosplaying as Franco Bash,
  • Sankaku Mochizuki (Level 49), cosplaying as Sokaku Mochizuki,
  • Will Bobson (Level 48), cosplaying as Bob Wilson,
  • Gura (Level 47) and Saan (Level 48), cosplaying as Geese’s henchmen.

At night, seek out:

  • Chad (Level 45), cosplaying as Richard Meyer,
  • Ron Shu Tan (Level 46), cosplaying as Tung Fu Rue,
  • Shushu (Level 48) and Reirei (Level 48), cosplaying as Jin Chonshu and Jin Chonrei,
  • Mr. Maximum (Level 48) and Duck Queen (Level 47), cosplaying as Michael Max and Duck King,
  • Hwang (Level 49) and Jae Hee (Level 46), cosplaying as Kim Kaphwan’s sons, Kim Jae Hoon and Kim Dong Hwan. You will team up with Jae Hee to challenge Hwang.

Once you’ve interacted with and defeated each cosplayer, you will automatically receive your mission rewards without needing to report back to Alice. Present the Ornamental Hairpin to Mai at Aokigahara to enhance her Bond by 40 points.

Other Appreciated Gifts

If you’re in need of additional points to hit that 100 Bond level with Mai, consider gifting the following items, which will grant her 2 points each:

  • Fan
  • Instant Stove
  • Prepaid Card
  • Rubber Duckies
  • Natto
  • Luxury Heat Pack
  • Knock Off Blanka-chan Doll

You can purchase Prepaid Cards without limitation from Shopkeeper Dora in Old Nayshall, priced at 1260 Zenny each. The rest of the items can be collected through various battles in World Tour Mode.

Lastly, you can also offer other items that yield 1 Bond point each, if necessary. If you’ve been diligent in enhancing Mai’s Style alongside her Bond, you likely won’t need to give her additional gifts, but feel free to use items obtained while raising any other World Tour Mode Masters’ Bonds.

Once Mai’s Bond level reaches the coveted 100, her Outfit 2 will automatically unlock, making it available for use in both Arcade and Fighting Ground modes. This costume is inspired by her new default outfit in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, and Mai can be seen sporting it throughout World Tour Mode.
