Season 6 of Virgin River hasn’t even aired yet, and some viewers are already expressing concerns: they think the series might not even “reach” season 7.
For fans of the popular Netflix series Virgin River, the wait for new episodes has been excruciatingly long. The second half of season 5 spanned the Christmas period, with the confirmed sixth season not even having a concrete release date yet..
Adapted from the beloved book series of the same name, the series appears to draw only slight inspiration from the original plot – but that doesn’t mean it abandons many exciting narrative threads.
However, some fans believe that Virgin River might not even “reach”season 7, despite a sixth installment that has yet to air.
Fans Don’t Think Virgin River Will Reach Season 7
According to some Virgin River fans on Reddit, the series may never “reach” season 7 – even as season six waits to air.
The series follows a nurse who leaves Los Angeles for a remote town in Northern California, and is surprised by what she finds there – including a companion, Jack Sheridan.
“Filming for season 6 is about to begin. I saw somewhere that it starts at the beginning of February, so it’s a month away,” Reddit user Doggo0729 posted on a thread of discussing. “I hope the writers took advantage of this long break to study the books, examine the dynamics between Mel and Jack, hire new intimacy coordinators AND most importantly, I hope they took the time to read all the fan comments on all social media platforms regarding season 5. I hope they listened to the fans and if what they previously wrote didn’t match the supposed direction of the story, I hope “They are smart enough to put things right.”
The user continues, further expressing his concern: “Because the truth is that, even if I love this series, if its writers don’t get their act together, it won’t make it to season 7. Fans from all over the world were disappointed, especially by the plots. […] I hope they focus this season on Jack and Mel’s relationship and journey as a couple, and most importantly, I hope they stop making them act like an old couple. I’m so tired of seeing them give each other little kisses on the lips like little birds. If Jack isn’t pulling Mel’s hair AND they’re not both out of breath, then I don’t want it!”
This isn’t the first time Mel and Jack’s relationship has been scrutinized by fans, with Mel recently being called one of the show’s most “annoying”characters.
The new storylines for season 6 of Virgin River are still to be defined – although the cliffhangers of the end of the fifth on Netflix have already given plenty of hints about what viewers can expect.
