Voicemod is finally making its way to consoles with the introduction of a new dongle that is compatible with the PS5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
Voicemod has been entertaining PC users with its unique selection of voices and official soundboards for many years. Although PS5 users could access voice changers through remote play, the process was not simple. Thankfully, the introduction of the Voicemod Key now allows console players using PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, or Nintendo Switch to easily change their voices without any complicated steps.
The Voicemod Key is a USB-C dongle that allows for a secure connection between the Voicemod app and your preferred gaming console. According to Voicemod, simply plug your gaming headset into one of the two audio jacks on the dongle and connect your chosen platform to the other.
For instance, for PS5 compatibility with Voicemod, the second audio jack needs to be inserted into the DualSense controller. Similarly, Nintendo Switch owners should plug it into the audio jack port located on the top of the handheld.
Finally, you will need to connect the dongle to your smartphone’s USB-C port. From there, you can open the Voiceapp and choose from a wide range of voices and soundbars to use during your online conversations with friends.
According to The Verge, the Voicemod Key dongle is designed to work with wired headsets only. This decision is most likely due to the potential impact a voice changer could have on a weak Bluetooth connection.
During an interview with the Verge, Voicemod’s chief operating officer Jochen Doppelhammer revealed that their primary target audience primarily uses wired gaming headsets. As a result, it is unlikely that they will offer support for wireless headsets anytime soon.
If you’re excited to use a transformed voice to surprise your friends on the PS5 or Xbox X, you’ll have to be patient. Currently, the Voicemod Key dongle is exclusively offered to individuals who sign up as beta testers on the official website.
The initial release of the Voicemod Key will soon be available in the USA, EU, and UK and will be priced at a surprisingly affordable rate, as is often the case with new technology.
