Wicked, the film adaptation of a famous Broadway musical in the world of The Wizard of Oz, has just been revealed in a first trailer at the Super Bowl.
Just like Deadpool 3, Wicked is one of the most anticipated films of 2024 to have been kept silent until now. And if until now spectators were only treated to a few enigmatic images and other mysterious teasers, the Super Bowl was the opportunity to publish a real trailer.
The public was therefore finally able to discover more about the film with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, taking advantage of the hype of the musical. The film, which was partly edited using the Apple Vision Pro according to its director Jonathan Chu, presented convincing first images. Wicked even looks even more magical than expected!
Wicked Trailer Brings New Life to a Broadway Play
After The Wizard of Oz, another story deserved to be told in the land of Oz. Wicked takes up the story of the Broadway play, itself inspired by the novel by L. Frank Baum. There are two emblematic characters: Elphaba, the wicked witch of the West, and Glinda, the kind witch of the North.
But Elphaba wasn’t always evil. Wicked explores the friendship between the two witches, whose opposing personalities and different experiences will begin to spark. Like the play, the film will explore their younger years, as Elphaba is rejected because of her green skin.
We will therefore be shown how the young woman became the “wicked” witch of the West. In addition to Ariana Grande (Glinda) and Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba), the cast will include Bridgerton Chronicles star Jonathan Bailey in the role of Prince Fiyero.
Wicked will be released in theaters on November 27, 2024.
