YouTube Launches 18+ AI Chatbot for Personalized Video Recommendations

YouTube has introduced an innovative AI chatbot designed for viewers aged 18 and older, enabling them to pose intricate questions and receive personalized video recommendations.

This new feature, dubbed “Ask YouTube, ” is currently available for YouTube Premium subscribers in the United States as part of a testing phase that will last until June 8.

With “Ask YouTube, ” users can interact with the AI by asking questions, which will yield a text summary accompanied by tailored video suggestions. The feature aims to enhance the existing YouTube search functionality, making it simpler for users to discover new creators and content.

Introducing the “Ask YouTube” AI Feature

YouTube provides an illustrative example of this feature’s capabilities: if a user inquires about planning a three-day road trip from San Francisco to Santa Barbara, the AI delivers a detailed, organized itinerary rather than merely listing related videos.

The output includes a blend of long-form videos, Shorts, and useful text featuring local insights and must-visit locations. Users can also engage further by asking follow-up questions, such as where to find excellent coffee during their journey, with the chatbot responding with timestamped segments from relevant videos.

During testing, outlets like The Verge explored the chatbot’s features by requesting a “short history of the Apollo 11 moon landing.” The result was a comprehensive text summary of the mission, complemented by videos indexed to specific moments such as the launch day.

Currently, this feature is exclusively available for U. S.YouTube Premium members aged 18 and above who decide to participate in the testing. However, YouTube has indicated plans to eventually make this feature accessible to non-Premium subscribers.
