Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Director’s Cut Re-Released

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon duology will be receiving its long-awaited Director’s Cut re-releases. However, to everyone’s surprise, both films will also be undergoing a name change.

The long-awaited Rebel Moon Director’s Cuts, exclusive to Netflix, were unveiled today with updated sub-titles. A Child of Fire is now known as Chapter One: Chalice of Blood, and The Scargiver has been renamed Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness.

Despite hyping up the re-releases for some time now, Snyder has not provided any explanation for the name change in either his tweet or the press release announcing the movies. He has promised fans that they will be filled with “over the top”sex and violence.

Despite the name change, many fans have not seemed to take notice. Snyder’s X/Twitter account has received an overwhelming number of replies, with the majority of fans eagerly anticipating the release of what they deem as the “true versions”of the films.

Despite the media frenzy surrounding Zack Snyder’s Justice League and the years-long campaign that brought it to fruition, there are some who are growing weary of the constant Director’s Cut gimmick associated with Snyder.

“One fan suggested, “Maybe cut it the way you want it the first time.”They expressed concern that the current practice gives the impression that none of your films are worth watching until a “directors cut”is released.”

Another person wrote, “When will this Snyder cut controversy ever come to an end? In my opinion, he is one of the most overrated directors.”

“Please cease these actions, sir. You should either create the film you desire or refrain from producing any further projects,”stated a different individual. “I believed you were a capable producer, but it appears you have little control over your own projects. This behavior must come to an end.”

Despite the fan backlash, it should be noted that Snyder revealed in a 2023 Associated Press interview that Netflix had requested the Rebel Moon Director’s Cuts prior to the start of filming. This could potentially justify the name change of the cuts, as they were intended to be distinct releases from the beginning.

In the interview, Snyder described the director’s cut as more of an “alternate reality version”rather than simply an extended cut. He explained that this was because he had filmed both versions simultaneously, rather than creating the director’s cut in response to outside influences, as he did with Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

According to Snyder, all of my director’s cuts were created in response to requests to remove certain aspects from the theatrical version. However, in this case, there was never a specific request to remove anything, just an expectation that the movie would be PG-13.

“It should be noted that it was Netflix’s suggestion. They proposed the idea of creating a PG-13 version and then allowing for more creative freedom in a separate project. They expressed that they were not concerned with the outcome.”

Despite the use of the gambit, Rebel Moon received harsh criticism, as evidenced by Snyder’s lowest Rotten Tomatoes score ever for the original cut of Part Two.

The Netflix release of Rebel Moon Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness is scheduled for August 2, 2024. If you crave even more Rebel Moon action, be sure to browse the selection of other new movies available for streaming this month.
