One Demon Slayer character is all about romance (& it’s not Zenitsu)

The Demon Slayer series takes place in a world where death and chaos are ever-present. Demons roam freely, instilling fear in the people of Japan, who are determined to eradicate them. Thus, the Demon Slayer Corps was formed, consisting of highly trained swordsmen who have devoted themselves to eliminating demons and protecting humanity from their evil.

It can be challenging to delve into the themes of love and romance in this type of environment, particularly when it involves characters who spend the majority of their time on the battlefield. However, there are certain individuals who stand out when discussing romance, as their ultimate desire is to find a companion and live a tranquil life with them.

Despite being overshadowed by Zenitsu, Mitsuri is the character who truly embodies the concept of romance.

It appears that Koyoharu Gotouge has deliberately selected a character who not only embodies the themes of love and romance, but also plays a crucial role in their psyche. This character is none other than Mitsuri Kanroji, who is fittingly known as the Love Hashira in the series. Additionally, her Breathing Style is referred to as Love Breathing.

Understanding Mitsuri and the significance of love and romance in her life is crucial in this series. Those familiar with the manga will be aware of her fortunate upbringing with loving and supportive parents.

Growing up, she was surrounded by love and support, evident in her interactions with others. Her inherent kindness and empathy for the vulnerable empowers her to bravely defend them on the battlefield against any danger.

Despite her desire for love, it appeared to be the underlying issue in her personal life. She longed for marriage and a peaceful life, yet the love she yearned for was not reciprocated in her search for a suitable partner.

As a result, she altered her personality to conform to the societal expectations placed upon her. However, she received unexpected love from an unlikely source, and it was pure in its nature. Kagaya Ubuyashiki bestowed upon her the greatest gift of all – the belief and confidence to embrace her true self.

Despite facing many challenges, it was love that continued to fuel her strength as a demon hunter. Eventually, she found herself falling for Iguro Obanai, the Serpent Hashira, who not only embraced her true self but also showed her immense love and kindness. With him by her side, she had both a partner to love and a cause to fight for.

She was showered with love from people in different ways, which motivated her to stand up for others. She embraced the strength she was given and utilized it to protect her loved ones from the demons that threatened them.

This is the reason why Mitsuri holds a significant role in the Demon Slayer series. In a story where romantic relationships are not a major focus, Gotouge crafted a character who emphasized the significance and impact of love in one’s journey.
