It was recently revealed that an old story about Song Hye Kyo’s family background resurfaced, causing a stir among netizens. The story first gained attention eight years ago when it was featured on TV Chosun’s Star Talk Show on July 14. Now, the content from that show has been brought back to light and is once again generating buzz on social media.
During the day’s broadcast, Baek Eun Young, an entertainment reporter, shared that Song Hye Kyo’s past was filled with sorrow. According to Young, Song’s parents were born in the same year, 1964, and tied the knot at a young age of 18. A year later, Song Hye Kyo was born, but sadly, her parents decided to part ways after nine years of marriage due to financial issues, personal conflicts, and other life difficulties.
Although Song Hye Kyo’s parents have remained undisclosed, the media had the chance to interview Song In Wan, the actress’s paternal grandfather. During the interview, Song Hye Kyo, who was already a well-known figure in the Korean entertainment industry, was around 24 years old. According to Song In Wan, Song Hye Kyo’s father is the eldest son of the family and his name is Song Dae Seop.
According to Song Hye Kyo’s grandfather, his eldest son, Song Dae Seop, relocated from Seoul to Daegu in order to attend high school. During his time there, Song Dae Seop met Kim and they developed a romantic relationship. Despite the disapproval of both families due to their young age, Song Dae Seop and Kim chose to marry after graduating from high school.
Nevertheless, despite this, they ultimately chose to tie the knot and one year later, Song Hye Kyo came into the world.
“As they were both still in their youth, I took care of all the preparations for their marriage and arranged the wedding. Following their marriage, they resided with us for approximately six months before ultimately choosing to relocate to Daegu and live independently,”revealed Song Hye Kyo’s grandfather.
Song Hye Kyo’s grandfather had always believed that his family was doing well because every summer, his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter would visit Seoul to spend time with everyone. However, in 1989, Mrs. Kim, Song Hye Kyo’s mother, surprised everyone by bringing her daughter to Seoul. At the time, Song Hye Kyo was 9 years old and in third grade.
Initially, we assumed that they would be living apart temporarily. However, we later found out that they had actually gotten divorced. While my son remained in Daegu, my daughter-in-law and granddaughter resided in Seoul. As the only one they could depend on for assistance in Seoul, I made sure to do everything in my power to support them, shared Song Hye Kyo’s grandfather.
Despite not having a close relationship, Mrs. Kim and her father-in-law did not prevent each other from seeing her daughter. Even though she was not close to her husband’s family, Mrs. Kim allowed them to visit and attend her daughter’s graduations. The grandfather, who attended on behalf of her father, was not able to do much for Song Hye Kyo besides attending her middle school and high school graduations. He also admitted that his son did not watch many of the actress’s movies, particularly avoiding scenes where she cried because of his feelings of guilt towards his daughter.
Despite being a single mother, Song Hye Kyo’s mother did an excellent job raising her child. While she deeply loved her daughter, she also ensured not to spoil her during her upbringing. As a result, Song Hye Kyo developed independence from an early age.
According to cultural critic Choi Young Il, Song Hye Kyo may have experienced a solitary childhood, but she was showered with love from her mother. Her mother captured numerous moments of her, from pouting to running, jumping, or sleeping… This resulted in a large collection of images of her daughter, showcasing the mother’s affectionate nature.
According to Professor Lee Ho Seon, a family psychology advisor, Song Hye Kyo’s mother showed love for her daughter but did not overly indulge her. The professor also suggested that Song Hye Kyo was raised to be resilient by her mother. In fact, Professor Lee shared that Song Hye Kyo’s mother instilled in her the belief that she must continue to thrive even if her mother were no longer around.
Thanks to her mother’s nurturing, Song Hye Kyo developed great independence. In praise of her mother, Song Hye Kyo once remarked, “She’s like a sister at times, and a friend at others. She’s the best mother I could ask for.”It is said that whenever something good happens, Song Hye Kyo rushes to her mother’s side. It was her mother who accompanied her to purchase her first car. Even after becoming a renowned celebrity, Song Hye Kyo’s first gift to her mother was a lavish villa worth 6 billion won.
Despite feeling sad, Song Hye Kyo chooses not to confide in her mother in order to spare her from any distress. She shared, “I don’t want my mother to see me in a sad state.”
