On August 8, 2017, the group made their debut in the K-pop industry. They are comprised of eight members, namely Suyeon, Elly, Yoojung, Doyeon, Sei, Lua, Rina, and Lucy.

It is worth mentioning that Yoojung and Doyeon were previously part of the project K-pop girl group I.O.I, which made their debut on May 4, 2016. They were also part of WJMK, a special project unit created by Starship Entertainment and Fantagio Music.

In addition, the group’s official SNS account, Fantagio, released a teaser revealing the title of Weki Meki’s comeback as “CoinciDestiny.”The post also stated that the single will be released on June 12 at 6 p.m. KST, marking the end of their seven-year journey.

“According to Fantagio, it is true that this (song) will mark Weki Meki’s departure.”

The collage depicts the Weki Meki members running hand in hand across a lush meadow, cherishing their time spent together.

K-Media emphasized that the title “CoinciDestiny,”a combination of “Coincide”and “Destiny,”would highlight the destined bond between the members and their fans.

“We will always cherish the moments we encountered unexpectedly, imagined destiny, and radiated with brightness,”the caption read.

On Twitter, fans and netizens took to social media platform X to react to the update. The news immediately elicited heartbroken responses, with many expressing sadness over the group’s impending disbandment. Some also voiced frustration towards Fantagio’s handling of the situation.

Below are their reactions:

  • “Digital. Single. Is it BLACKPINK discography, because why are we getting 1 song in 3 years?”
  • “6 days to go and it seems we get nothing for promotions.”
  • “A digital single, collage poster even I could make, and probably barely any promotions. This is not how Weki Meki deserves to go.”
  • “Lmao digital, are you saying you can’t offer other activities and comebacks for the girls and this is the last?”
  • “You guys wasted this group, @fantagiomusic_. They didn’t deserve the way you treated these talented girls.”

On November 18, 2021, Weki Meki made their latest comeback with their fifth mini album “I Am Me,”featuring the title track “Siesta.”
